I had a small accident this weekend while swapping my heatsink for a Thermalright AX-7. Yup, you guessed it the poor little core got cracked and fried as soon as I powered up.

Nevermind.

Time for a new chip. Unfortunately I'm broke at the moment so I've ordered a Duron 1.3. Now for the questions....

Going from a T-Bird 1.0 GHz to a Duron 1.3. What kind of performance difference? I know the Duron has less on die cache, but it runs at a higher clock and uses the Morgan core. I'm thinking it will be the same if not slightly quicker than the T-Bird?

I also pressume it will run slightly cooler?

But the big question which I should have thought of sooner is this... Will the Morgan core be compatible with by motherboard? Abit KT7A-RAID? Version 1.1.

Any comments gratefully recieved.

i run a duron 1.2 right now, and it works fine (for regular use), but if you want to overclock or anything, or have a faster FSB, then i suggest going for a 1.4 Tbird 266 if you can

Fletch....

Thanks for that info. Which version of the board are you running and with which BIOS release?

I've found that Abit's site says the v1.1 board I have doesnt support the Morgan chips, but other sites say it can work without a problem. Curious!

If I end up needing a BIOS update does anyone know who sells the BIOS chips? prefferably in the UK?

Thnx

Yeah but my question is will my Mobo support the Morgan core, which is the same as the Xp but without all the cache.

From what I have seen here at oc...yes. It seems to be a good and stable combo. I have never owned KT7A so I cannot say for sure. If you don't get a response you may what to look for someone that has a kt7a and pm them. Good luck:)

Ive just upgraded from an abit kt7a v1.1 to a asus a7v333 because it never supported XP's. however, you should have no problems running the duron morgan core, look here for some a additional help: http://www.viahardware.com/faq/kt7/kt7faq.htm

Hope this helps

isn't the Athlon XP 1600+ the same price as the Dureon 1.3 ghz?
