Let's try to keep them all in one thread....my personal views, it's a very nice card, with the regular benchmarks (no AA, etc.) then it's what you'd expect out of a next-gen card when compared to an older generation card...however, when you turn the anti-aliasing and atiscopteric filtering on! WoW! that's when the card begins to shine. Kudos to Ati for releasing a product that ups the frames per second but also adds imgage quality features as well. I've been a little dissapointed in the past with Nvidia's focus mainly on frames per second and not image quality.....however, my one complaint is that the 9700pro is not a full DX9 compliant part.
its too bad im not going to buy this card tho, im going for a ti4200 (or maybe a ti4600) when the Nvidia prices drop like flies because of this awesome card. Where are the Nvidia fanboys now???? hahahahahahaha
does anybody know where they sell this card? i can only seem to find the 9000 not the 9700
Amazing, Astounding, Unbeleivable! The performance is mind boggling, especially with AF/AA! AF and AA are the STANDARD for games with the 9700 now. And its only going to get better as drivers improve and new games come out.
Hail to the king!

I've always been a big Nvidia fan, but the new 9700 just simply sez : KICKS AZZ!
Good job ATI for getting your s**t together.
I've also recommended/installed an 8500 LE on my bro-in-laws comp. Great card for the $!
Keep it coming Nvidia and ATI!!!

I'm probably going to get this card . It should definitely hold it own next year . Even if others beat it later , i think it has good staying power .

Definitely will hold its own for a while to come.
This is a serious card for the hardcore gamers, I am waiting to see the 9500 and what it is clocked at and the price difference.

I think I'm going to hang on till the die shrink on the 9700, and the NV30 comes out. That should be interesting to watch prices after, between the two companies.

Correction. The 9700pro is Fully DX9 Compliant and possibly fully DX9.1 compliant (the r350 will be which is coming out in january). It meets and exceeds all the requirements to be a dx9 part. The matrox parenhalia (spelling?) is only partially dx9 compliant.
Just so you know:)

The performance w/ AA and aniso is great, I always put image quality over framerates, however there is a point where it gets too low, and ATi more than exceeds that point for me :)
However, I only wish that it first came out at .13 micron, then Id have no reason to torture myself over purchasing it now vs later ;)
Also, I hope other companies manufacture it, so that there is some form of competition, and us OCers can pick out the highest quality hardware out of many, rather than few

I would think pretty soon, since the R9700 can be found now online for $340.
What a great time to upgrade:)

i'm thinking about making an investment into a 9700, but there are a couple things holding me back.
a.) how is the 2d support on this? yes, i know most of you are saying "wtf, 2d? what the hell do you need 2d for?" but i've been using matrox products for a while and i know their 2d completely owns the 2d on nvidia and previous ati products. and 2d support is a major factor in my buying decision (i'm currently thinking about a parhelia... 2d anti-aliasing... haha) since i'm entering college and text scrolling is a major part of everything i do. and i've used other cards and even the 4600 isn't good enough for my liking... if the 2d performance isn't up to snuff, the text is fuzzy and i won't like it. i've seen the parhelia's and the quality of their 2d power is up to snuff. can anyone tell me what the 9700 is like in this regards?
b.) what about multimonitor support? the parhelia supports up to three monitors (yes, price drops have made this a perfectly viable option... even to a college student, and i intend to go dual initially and eventually expand to three). what does the 9700 do? and how well does it handle it? the parhelia has two RAMDACs and two display controllers making it ideal for multimonitor setups. how well does the 9700 do in this regard?
like i said right now, i'm looking to buy a parhelia. but with the 3d power that ATi has shown me and the fact that the prices are the same (okay, so the parhelia's 10 bucks cheaper, but i'm willing to pay that difference), with the things that i'm looking for, would the 9700 do? i mean yes i want a matrox product but if this new card proves to be a better candidate for what i need, then i'll get it. thanks.

bob, as far as the 2d quality, I haven't seen it addressed in any reviews.
Yes, matrox has done well in the 2d arena, but I'd find some owners of the parhelia to talk w/ before getting the card. So far, nearly every review site has had som fairly major issues w/ the matrox drivers. You might want to investigate that from a few card owners before taking the plunge.
However, I know the R9700 has ON-BOARD dual 400mhz RAMDACS. This means the cheap oem's won't be able to go the cheap route and slap a 150mhz RAMDAC on their 3rd party board, like they could w/ the R8500.
I don't know if that is what you were looking for, but i hope it helps:)

haha. yeah, it does. thx.
but are there any parhelia or 9700 owners who can comment on that? preferably someone who has used/owned both, but if it's only with one or the other, your insight would be helpful too. thanks.
