View Full Version : P4 processor gettin to hot
I just setup my own rig. I havent even overclocked it yet. And if i leave it alone for awhile or try doing something it sometimes gets to hot and the computer just shuts down. I have a nice heatsink and plenty of case fans so i dont think thats the problem. What could be wrong? I was thinking maybe the bios werent setup right. Would should they be with a P4 1.8A on an asus p4s533? I want to get it totaly working fine before i over clock it.
What are your temperatures first of all? Is it giving off like a siren before shutting off? Sounds to me like you didn't use thermal paste since you already have good cooling.
Thermal paste is something you put between the core and the heatsink to transfer the heat from the core to the heatsink. You want a real thin layer so the heat is transfered immediatly, and a thick layer can cause resistance.
I do recommend Arctic Silver 3 for this job and use these instructions, read over them.

Edit: I noticed you had a digidoc. Are you setting that up right? Make sure it has AS on the tip of the diode and nudging the side of the IHS. If it is in the middle of the core it will most likely get in the way so the heatsink can't mount straight down or can't transfer the heat since that thing is in the way.
