OK my computer recently stopped turning on....i wil lturn it on, but nothing will show on monitor and HDD light will just stay constintaly lit..both not normal operations. And the processor fan barely works now, so i am guessing it died when my brother was using it and he left it on and its burned out. I am wondering if theres a way to test processor to make sure thats where the problem is......any help greatly appreciated.

You can take it to a computer shop and have them test it. Or if you have another rig, just test it in there. If the cpu fan doesn't work, I'd bet that the cpu is toast.

First of all, do this:

Have your power supply plugged in turned off. This will reduce the chance of static shocking your components. Remember to touch the outside frame of the case frequently. Make sure it isn't painted and pure metal).

Disconnect everything but the following:

Motherboard
CPU + Heatsink Fan Plugged In
RAM
Video Card
Power Supply

No PCI Cards should be in, ATA/IDE Connectors should be taken out of the motherboard (You can leave them in the device since the power to them will be disconnected), and try powering on.

Clear the cmos -- Refer to the manual if you don't know how to do this.

If it doesn't work the problem is within these 4 components. If you have thermal paste around you can take out the CPU inspect it try putting some thermal paste on and remount if. If there is any physical damage like burned on the core (Black in this case) or whatever it is most likely burned. Apply the thermal paste and put back on the heatsink.

I know some systems won't bootup because of that, I don't know why exactly.

If it bootsup turn the power supply off immediatly since your fan is abit wacked.

From here start plugging things in one by one and then see if you get the problem again.

Just keep in mind your cpu fan is abit wacked so you be better off buying a new one first.

Without knowing your motherboard, some require that a functioning fan be plugged into the CPU fan header to boot up. If your fan isn't giving the appropriate signal, that may cause you not to boot.
