k, so i've got this box, the one in my sig, i've run it with 3 different chips, this 1600 being the 3rd and the only one that i've left locked. so, i'm on fsb alone. now here's the thing, i've always run this exact system at 166 fsb, no problem with it ever. i was running win2k for the most part but with win 98 on dual boot. no problems right?... so, the other day i kept getting a regestry error, over and over again. so i formatted the entire drive, reinstalled only win98, now i can't get even close to 166, i was running at 160 for a bit yesterday, but couldn't open wolfenstien, system would hang while loading the game. so i dropped back to default and all was okay, i started working up, 144 is about the best i can get, anything over and it's a mess of corrupted files and registry errors. so what the heck?! i've formatted and reinstalled twice (and i know the routine, 4 in 1's, agp, dx, video, sound, everything else...) exact same result, so i'm thinking... ram going bad? any ideas??, i'm gonna unlock the chip tonight so i can get back up into the higer mhz, but what i really want is the higher fsb's.
well. thanx for listenin, i'd appreciate any ideas or if anyone has had a similar problem....
How agressively do you run your RAM? Try throttling it down to CL3 (2.5-3-3-6-2) and see if you can hit your higher clock speed.

yup, tried all the slowest ram timings, got a little further that way, that's what's making me think my ram is crappin out, cuz it's always been fine @ 166 fastest timings. the psu... well. it's been fine running this board at 166 fsb for quite some time, although i know it shouldn't be. my 300 i gave away with a puter i sold. leaving me with only this 250. seemed to work okay so i figured what the heck. the voltages are actually more steady than they were with my enlight 300. well. i'll be shopping for some faster ram (think it's just starting to die from about 6+ months of running wide open at fastest timings and overvolted) and a 350 or bigger psu. for now... unlocking went great, and i'm now back in the neighborhood of 1.75 (12.5x140) so i can stick with that for a while. thanx for the tips! geeez, just not as fast as running 10.5x166....

weak 5 volt and vcore rail is my guess that use to happen to me too. but after much moding the problem is fixed. give it more voltage and see if the 5 volt rail stays higher the 4.8
