View Full Version : just finished a comp everything is good except floppy

well i just finished a computer for my dad to use
epox 8k7a (floppy ide controler was fine an hour earlier from the system i took it from.

i boot just to the bios it found all ide drive good
so i tried to boot from a floppy but no luck
there is no power to the new floppy
i tried 2 different power cables
2 ide cables
and a different floopy (same brand also new)

the power led on the front dosn't even turn on so i was thinking power supply

(new antec true power 330)

any ideas?

Check the mounting hardware. I've heard of some FDDs being grounded by screws that are too long.

Sometimes, if you set the BIOS to failsafe or default settings, the floppy won't be detected. Usually, there's a menu in BIOS with the IDE1 (channels 1 & 2) and IDE2 (channels 1 & 2) as well as floppy A and floppy B. Make sure that you select 1.44 MB floppy for floppy A, in the event that nothing shows there. -- Paul

also read your mobo manual again in the IDE/flopy device setup in the bios to make sure you didnt miss anything, pretty much what macklin01 said to do but check the manual while your at it

make sure you have the floppy cable plugged in the correct way. and heck trun it around for the heck of it. when its the wrong way the light should always be on(usually).

also the twisted end of the floppy cable is for connecting to the first floppy drive(a drive).

hell this happens to me all the time.
everytime it was the wire. i either didnt' plug it in all the way or i plug it the wrong way...stupid me.
