I need to find some barbs (those L shaped ones). How much are they usually? I looked at canadian tire today, but I couldn't find any that would fit in 3/8" tubing. Does such a thing exist? In which section of astore would it be found?

You can find them here Becooling (http://becooling.safeshopper.com/23/cat23.htm?249)
Try Home Depot instead of Crappy Tire. They do have a Home Depot in Ottawa right?

hmmm, well I found the dang barbs, but I took the wrong one. I saw a 3/8" one at the store, but when I tested it, the tubing had to be stretched pretty badly to get over it, and it ended deforming the tube, so I didn't think that was such a good idea to use the exact same size as the hose
I bought a 1/4" one found in the clearence section (2 of them) so I can't return them (besides these things are sooooo expensive! 3 bucks for each!) The tube goes in with a tiny bit of resistnece (you cah feel the sie of the barb with the tube), so I think that it won't leak if I clamp it down with a hose clamp like in this pic....(will it?)

they will work, they may infact be 3/8" because the measurments are useally something like 3/8 1/4 indicating the barb size then thread size.
i doubt it will leak if you clamp them.
i am surprised that you can't get hold of any barbs, when i went to america this summer i somehow ended up in hardware shops (my brother is fasinated with oversized potato guns) and because of that i now have a few 3/8 barbs waiting for a waterblock
