As above:
I have a 866 pIII coppermine
At stock speeds, and stock HSF my 1Ghz compermines got as high as 54C and would run stable all day.

From what I could remember, the maximum temperature for that CPU is 80C.
What i Remember was those CPUs Starting at 700Mhz could take 80Degress, but as it got faster the tolerance droped to like 60/70 degrees for the 1Ghz chip. At least i think it was for stability. My Friend's runs at 50 Max Load. Don't worry tho those CPUs would freeze up long b4 they fry but their lifespan goes way down when running near the limit.

My P3-500@562 runs full load, 24/7 with SETI and hit's 63*-65*c and has always been stable. Mine is a Katmai and they are known for running hot.

I had a PIII 866 in my rig once, with my alph PEP66U and two fans, and I got the FSB up to 160 (Before AGP crapped out). I had to increase the voltage about 0.1V to get ti there, and the temps were in the low 40's. It was a damn fine chip. Only wish I could have pushed it to it's limits.
