I am going to swap cpus and a heatsink tonight and I was wondering if it would be safe to just do it while the mobo is still in the computer because it would be a real pain to take it out?

Sure you can.
If use have onne of the heatsinks that clip onto the socket lugs then just be careful. If you use a screwdriver to take it off then put a small plastic card on the MB so if the screwdriver slips you wont destroy a resistor.
Just take your time, you should not have any probs.

I do it all the time.
Just be extra careful if you're using a screwdriver not it doesn't slip and damage the mobo.
Good to hear everything's up and running.
