View Full Version : Water cooling and flow rates...

I just bought a new pump today. 210GPH. I noticed that with the entire system assembled the water is flowing at a very fast rate.
I was just wondering, how fast is too fast. When will the water be traveling through the radiator so fast that it cannot effectively dump its heat?
Has anyone done some research on this? If so, post it or link to it.
thanks

can, with care, be determined empirically

Put a valve or adjustable restricter in-line and adjust flow rate for best cooling performance.

BillA, thanks man. That is just what I was looking for.
Man I thought I posted that link and I went back to Overclockers window and I had not hit the post button! DOH!
Anyway, FWIW, I have a pump rated at 650 GPH @ 1 ft . Restricting the flow causes my temps to go up. Don't wast the money on a valve, just use a hose clamp.

ya man ,restrict it with a pair of vise grips or a small clamp to see if you can get any better temps by doing it ,before ya go addind a valve and all :p
