What nic card works well with WinXP pro, and an Athlon XP 2000+ chip.
Netgear tech support said my FA311 was incompatible with my system (chip specifically).
I've also tried the linksys etherfast ver 5.1 something or other and I get the same exact symptoms as my FA311 card. I'm thinking its some other problem with my hardware, but I have no idea what or how to trouble shoot for it.

Both cards will work fine as long as I don't plug in the ethernet cable, as soon as I do that the system shoots to upwards of 95% CPU usage and will usually crash. Even if i plug in a ethernet cable with nothing attached to the otehr end of it!!!

ive tried changing the pci slot, ive tried changing the cable, ive changed the port its plugged into in the router, in fact it doens't even matter if the router or anything is plugged into the other end of the cable, just plugging one in messes everything up. Ive reinstalled windows, called tech support. I've got nothing!
I can only guess that some how its the mother board...

Could you find out from that friend which PCI slot he's using on the KX7-333 and if he has any non-default settings in his bios or WinXP???

Thanks.

Now you arn't pluging in the cat5 AFTER you boot the system are you??

Make sure you arn't using a crossover cable. they look exactly like normal cables except if you look at the clips.. 2 of the wires are switched. Straight connections don't like crossover cables...

Netgear sucks.. 'nuff said

I prefer 3com and SMC equipment for networking.. they are the best

Weird that it would be in compatible with that system.

I've also tried the linksys etherfast ver 5.1

Is that from the box? Try downloading directly from their site for the lastest drivers before buying anything new. Make sure you read the readme and follow the instructions. I know before I didn't and I found out I was updating from the wrong directly and the drivers were incompatible but the real drivers were in some other folder.

If that doesn't work I like 3com 3C905 series. They are rock solid, and can take real high fsbs. My other LAN Card is the D-Link DFE530TX which can take FSBs as high as 172. I know Intel makes good cards too.

Im not using a crossover cable, and ive tried pluggin it in after and before booting up. Same problems. I can't really download the new drivers cause my nic card won't work. I am reading the read me's and following instructions. Still haven't figured anything out, but i haven't quit.
