Hi, I have a problem in XP that is really bugging me! I have 3 accounts set up 1 administrator and 2 limited. In one limited account outlook express takes about 1&1/2 minutes to load, it just displays the splash screen for this time? I have tried a clean install which fixed it, but when I rebooted it was back the same. This occured with no other software or drivers installed? Any help solving this greatly appreciated.

Hi AZN, in reply to your questions. The splash screen shows for about a min & a half before outlook ex opens, I have it setup for one email account. It is the same server as an email account I have in my other user account and this shows the splash screen for about 1 sec before opening. I have disabled 'compact messages in the background' in the maintenance tab after looking for a solution on the knowledge base - no change. I dont have any newsgroups setup and have tried a clean install and the problem returned after the first re-boot with no progs, drivers or updates installed. I'm stumped!

Welcome to the forums Cavemangeezer...I'm familiar with a couple of possible reasons that OE might open slowly:

1) Antivirus software scanning or...

2) Windows Messenger is attempting to sign on

Open OE and select Tools | Options | "General" Tab | Uncheck "Automatically log on to Windows Messenger" and click "Apply". ;)

Hi redduc900, thanks for your reply but I don't have messenger setup in this account so the option to turn it off is not available in the general tab. I havn't got round to re-installing Norton yet so thats not causing the problem either. I know this sounds strange but before I setup raid 0 on my 7DXR I had the same setup of user accounts and no delay? I'm going to try changing the account to administrator to see if that has any effect.

Hi again, I have solved the problem. It was windows messenger causing the problem. I tried to setup an account in the user account that had the problem and windows messenger would not open? I downloaded and installed messenger in this user account and hey presto - no delay. Strange as I have messenger setup in another account with no probs. I only hope it doesn't re-appear after a re-boot. Thanks redduc900 for putting me on the right track.

I know that there is a setting in the registry (I believe in the Local_Machine section) that if you set the value to "" the delay is gone even if you don't have messenger installed. Can you tell I had the same problem? I can't remember the exact setting, but I found a webpage that explained all about the problem and the fix by doing searches on outlook load slow etc.
I could not find the answer in microsofts database. (why would they want to tell you how to circumvent messenger?) If I find the print out I made I'll post a link but I'm afraid I already threw it away. Sorry:cool:
