I just got my Alpha in the mail and I noticed the instructions seem to want me to mount the fan drawing air up from the HSF. All the other HSF's that I have seen blow air down onto them. Should the fan suck or blow? (snicker)

Ok, got my Alpha installed replacing my Super Orb and my temps went from 42c full load to 35c full load. Guess that Alpha was worth the money.

The PAL is definately one of the best hsf's you can buy even with a slower fan they still come close to a PEP and FOP-38. I used it till I got my watercooling and if I didn't do the voltage mod I would still be aircooled. Now it is cooling the wife's computer. I also tried it with the fan sucking and blowing (oooh boy that didn't sound right) and it performed much better sucking.........LOL it was like a 5-6C temp difference!

I was lookin at the PEP but I didnt feel like doin all the mods in order to get it to fit on my KT7a and the FOP seemed to do about the same as the Alpha in all the reviews I read so I just went with the Alpha. Works pretty good although I still cant seem to get my Processor to clock any higher. Must not be a heat thing.

Alright guys, really quick.

For some reason I'm not really thinking, is the Alpha different in design from most other HSF's?? I always thought that blowing was better (hehe) however, every now and then I see people using to draw air away,

I use the Globalwin FOP32-1 and have it blowing at it, would I be better off sucking?

Thanks guys

I have an FOP-32 and made a makeshift shroud for it, then flipped the fan to suck instead of blow. It didn't make much difference, maybe a degree or two warmer at full load. Conversely, I upgrade to the big mutha Swiftech MC-462A and tried the same thing. It definitely did not like being sucked. It uses a 68 cfm fan and the downblast is so strong that is screws up the circulation across the motherboard. Even with a shroud, the temp on the Swiftech went up 5 deg on suck. The good news is, it's such a powerful HSF, that it still works great either way.

From what I have read, if your heatsink comes with a shroud(like the pal6035) then you should have it suck, If it doesnt come with a shroud(like the fop38 ) then you should have it blow.
I tried my alpha pal blowing and I couldnt even get into windows, with the same setup and the fan sucking, I am fine

The fop 38 cools my 1.2ghz t-bird 10C cooler than my old Alpha 6035 w/ sunnon fan, and is much cheaper.
