Idea for saving some bandwidth

How about an option for hosting our avatars images? That would save a lot of bandwidth , dont you think?

Woah... And the original 200K avatars were pretty much movies in them selves!! I would just love to see what some of the Avatar Guild could do with a whopping 700K (though I'd hate to download over this 56K connection...)

Ugh! I don't think that I could fill 700k of avatar space. Come to think of it I doubt that I've even made 700k worth of avatars.

I like the idea of off-site avatar hosting, though. It would certainly help skip out. The only problem I see is that it would put a large burden somewhere else. I wouldn't mind hosting my avatar at auctionwatch, but I'm not so sure that they'd be happy about it.

how bout having the option of having it hosted elsewhere... not make it mandatory. i have guaranteed speed for myself so i would be able to do that.

anyone else who wants me to host for them i would be open to. i have tons of space and 120x120 avy's even motion gif's aren't very big.

It would put additional stress on the server, and take up space if they implemented that.

he means having a 3rd party server host the avatars for our site. this wouldn't hurt our bandwidth at all... i believe.

why does it have to be all at once place

i think we should do somthing like this

host it from your own diffent website ( distrubte the load)

mabey have a default 50k or less one you leave with skip incase it cant be reached

or if some one says in the user cp that they down want 700k avatars

i dont know if this could be done but its a good idea ( at least i think)

sure thats what i meant... everyone puts theirs up where they have access. those who don't have access get the old fashioned way like it is now.

and default should just be nothing or a red x so you know when something is messed up.

there should also be an option to disable avatars, b/c I don't think many 56kers would enjoy having to wait for those 700K avatars to load.
