I'm not sure I understand. You want to disable a program such as antivirus software so that it does not interfere while you're installing other software/drivers?

Ordinarily, you'd right-click the task bar icon of the program and select the exit or disable option. If there's no icon for the program you want to kill in the task bar, then hit ctrl + alt + delete and use the task manager to shutdown the program you wish to stop.

well yeah, that's the reason i want to shut it down... to install a program, (or a few million :) ), but the thing is, when i do ctrl+alt+del... IT'S WAAAAAY DIFFERENT than when i would shut down programs with winME or win98 using ctrl+alt+del. it doesn't even give me the option. instead, all this crazy stuff comes up like, log off, change password, shut down, and task manager. i tried task manager but thats way diffetent to. i dunno what to do?!?!

Ah the joys of a powerful OS!

You want to use the task manager option. There are 3 tabs. The first shows currently running programs. The 2nd- processes- shows all the programs and background services that are running. If the program you want to turn off is not listed under the 1st tab, it will be in the Processes tab. You just select it with the mouse and choose kill process, much like win9x's task manager. The 3rd tab shows various hardware monitoring graphs, like cpu and memory useage.

Win2k is not much different in appearance from any other version of windows, but compared to ME or 98, it does have a lot of extra stuff. Hope that helps you. Enjoy!

Enjoy! ok, i got it now. i was a afraid to turn it off like that because it had an exclamation mark and said some thing like, "do you really want to terminate this program!, it mght never run again! etc..." i was like whoa!
