My CPU was at 1596, now 1592

Ok, well I just got my new comp together, and its an athlon XP1900 running at 1596MHz, or so it was ! The thing gets so hot it flips out really bad! I cant believe how hot the heat sink gets, its to the point where you cant leave your finger on it or you will burn it ! And the worse thing is my cpu fan isnt enough. I have no other fans in my computer, so I have the side open and im blowing a little fan in it, im thinking of putting a big box fan there and turning it up full blast. Well I think because of the heat its frying my cpu, because now its running at 1592Mhz instead of 1596 ! I have $20 what should I do !!!!

what should I do as in how can I make my CPU cooler, is it a good idea to place a box fan next to my pc ?

find a way to get a exact cpu die temp. try motherboard monitor.
then put the box fan on it.
also check your cpu vcore to make sure its not higher than spec.
also u can under clock for a while to save the cpu. drop it to say 1300 mhz. mabey itll live to u track the exact problem down.

but u need case fans and a cpu heatsink badly.

I do have a cpu heatsink, thats what I said was getting hot.

I have 2 box fans on both sides of my computer now, I hope it helps.

The problem might be that the FSB is too high ? The chip was running at 1196Mhz when it should have been running at 1596, so I went in and it was at 100/100 so I changed it to 133/133

maybe that could be it ?

bah this sucks !! and my case is so small, that the power supply is right over the heatink fan, so I cant get a biger heat sink fan, and I think that could be part of the problem as well.....

can you go into bios and check you temps for us?

Also, waht you need to do, is take off the hsf clean it with alcohol cleant he cpu core with alcohol...put a reaally thin layer of as3 on the core flatten with credit card...make really thin...then remount the heatsink...that should help your temps a bit..also why not consider spending 35$ and getting a good heatsink with a fan like the ax-7 w/a delta 68cfm or ystech 50cfm
