i hear this from one of our school system administrator, he said we can link few computer up and ask them to process some very cpu intensive task. did anyone hear about this? how could we do it?

I thought this was only possible with 3D Rendering Apps. If you find out how please post.

certain programs, usualy rendering progrms, have the ability to split up the work and let multiple computers work on each part.

not sure about it, but that system admin told me that we can used it to do some FEA calculation. he also told me secretly that he did link the whole lab computer to help him do the seti, and he said it was damn fast. i search in google and found out this method call parallel processing. so far it was only available for unix and linux.

probably talking about a beowulf cluster
do a google search on that...not at all usable for something requiring quick calculations, but if its something brute force related (see rc5/f@h) it works very well.
