Not sure where to put this, but I really need anti virus software, but I don't know what is good, and free.

Any suggestions? It has to be free...

AH!!!!!!!!!! This is EVIL!
The online one can't clean the files that are infected and running (windows itself!), and PC -Cillian and several other ones that I tried to install, WONT INSTALL! The virus stops them!

Try Norton Antivirus You can boot from the CD and perform a virus scan with the antivirus software. It is worth every penny of the 49.95 I paid for it.

It has saved my bacon many times!

Free is good but not always the best.

I tried PC-cillians anti virus from boot stuff, it couldn't even find the virus...
Norton didn't work either...

Virus makers should be MURDERED.
With LARGE weapons, used VERY SLOWLY.

Man... I think I'm gonna have to clean what I can, back it up to CD, and reinstall...
Its gonna take a lot of CDs... which hopefully won't get the darn virus on them...

Try this page I found at symantec.com (http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/kill_cih.html). It has a link to a removal tool for Chernobyl.

Hope this helps.

You can only blame yourself for being unarmed in the war against Virii.

FINALY!!!!!!!!!

Chernoboyl is gone!

I had to use emergancy disk rescue thingies, PC-Cillian, the online housecall thing linked above, norton, the syantec CH in mem killer, and a couple other anti virus programs.

And it WAS chernoboyl that was stopping DivX from installing!

Ya! I can watch movies again!

Glad everything is OK! I know what it is like to loose data to a virus. I lost almost a year and a half of inspection data and service calls when I was a field technician. I warned people this would happen sooner or later. But as usual no one listened to the geek (lil ol' me) in the shop, then it happened! An Evolution infection that ate all of my data and one other tech's data. And guess what no one had even considered backing up any data at any time. Regardless of what the geek said.

I am going to start backing all my data on all my PCs.
Who knows when they could go down... My brother can't stop getting stuff off kazaa...
