Water Rig Pump Question

Does anybody have an idea of how to run an EHEIM 1046 water pump off of the PSU?

I'm afraid you need to run it off 115V AC. But you can wire it up with a 115V relay thats has a 12V coil, that way it will turn on/off with the computer.

Thanks. I was hoping that there was maybe some type of converter or something that could be used...such as those that you can find for cigarette lighters in your car. Oh well, guess I'll have to have that /*cord*/ running out of my case somewhere...

There is a great article Joe did. Look in front, under reviews and tips, miscellaneous, for "Relays and Rheostats". This will give you a real good idea of what you have to do. It's a relatively cheap mod, too.

Yeah, I noticed that in a previous thread...I'm planning on doing that now, but I was hoping that I wouldn't have to find a place to run that cord out of my case. Oh well, I suppose I can just drill a hole or something.

Grab a power switch and 3 prong AC socket from an old PSU and mount them in the back of your case. Wire the switch to turn the pump on for filling, testing and bleeding with out firing up your whole box. Use the relay to turn on the pump when the PC is on.

By the three prong socket you mean the one was that has the funky three prongs that you need an adaptor for?

If your ambitous enough you can crack open your power suppy and wire the pump to the 115vac thats comming into your power supply

Look on the back of your computers PSU. One just like that.

Thanks for your input. I really appreciate it. I'll have to look around to see if I can come up with one of those connectors (I think there might be one on the old P/S 2 in my basement...), and if I can't find one, I suppose I could take Mr_Goat's suggestion and wire it to the PSU.

I'm not sure yet....I still have to set the system up. I need to have some time off during the day some time so I can head over to a hardware store and by a tee for my hoses...that's probably gonna be sometime next week (God I hope so...). I'll give a full post about my system when I get it set.

After you buy your fittings, take a Dremel and chamfer the inside edges to improve the flow.
