Well I just got a first hand account of how tough my duaghters little Tbird 1400 was,I came home yesterday to find my Daughter using my computer, when I asked her why she wasn't using hers she said it didn't work and it smelled like a hot iron, well when I looked over and saw the Harddrive light on I got scared and removed the cover, upon seeing no fans spinning I unplugged it and grabbed the heatsink, it was so hot I thought I may have to go to the burn center so I got out the trusty oven mit and removed Hsf and then proc, all were so dam hot I coundn't get near them , I held the Hsf up to my a/c and cooled it down and let the proc cool off. Well at that point I was bumming bigtime I figured there is no way that thing lived, but what the heck I reapplied AsII and a new fan on the Hs and fired it up and it posted NO Way !!!!!! and runs fine. The best thing is that that dam 1400 266fsb would not run @ 1400 so I had been running it @ 1300 200Fsb for months, And it even runs 5c cooler than ever before, So the moral is burnem in boys it really works!!:D

Those chips can run up to 95*c according to AMD It makes you wonder how thay last at that tempture.

with out a heatsink fan, it probably would go over 95 C

without the heatsink, it'll go up in the hundreds

You are lucky the heatsink was still on. The people who fry em in an instant are the people that have no contact!

You are a very very very very very lucky man!

Ya damn right! And don't make me pull out the pink saber as well :D PS How did the fan come unplugged? I bet your daughter pulled it out on purpose so she can get her hands on the new T-Bred's Rev B! :D JK

One time i left my fan unplugged and went to school. My dog musta turned un the power, but when i got home my xp1600+(overclocked= to an 1800+) was steamin. AMD makes some good stuff cause it worked great.

You best to be careful wit the light saber, hence you wouldnt want any ladies to get hurt. I heard those light sabers are very dangerous :) ?? ;)

I love unplugging the fan and seeing how hot the CPU gets... man I am bad.

I'm not that brave. Even w/ my mobo's CPU Overheat Protection
feature, I still double check to see if my fan is hooked up before I start it up.

You can get the same effect in software by installing speedfan and turning the speed (via PWM) down to 0%. I did that for an experiment once, but got nervous when it hit 55C and turned the fan back on. Very simple using mouseclicks. :)

-- Paul Ahh you're safe up to 60c and more... I (on a slower speed fan) just use my finger to stop the fan and watch the temps rise... its fun. Also fun to touch it.

Did I ever tell you of the time I had my sister put her finger on the core of a celly and fired it up... ohh man I wish I had a digital video camera. Unfortunately her heart didnt have enough GPH to warrant a change of air cooling to blood cooling.

Dude you are extremely evil! You'd never want your fingers in my fan (Delta 80). Consider it broken if it's in.
