I have a gigabyte ga7vrx with a viakt333 chipset and an athlon xp1600+ cpu. I cant change fsb directly from my bios(any number,133-400mhz), and when at 146, it believes i have an athlonxp1800+. I benchmark well, but i cant get above 153mhz(fsb). it stops posting. have to clear cmos. What is up with that? My heat is fine(120-140*f) with my volocano heatsink, even with voltage increases(which i can only add 10% at most). But no matter what it wont budge past 153. Tried all. Ohh, and i cant change clock multiplier. At all. Thats a processor thing, right? Well, could someone give this newbie a hand? Thanks.

Well as far as changing the multipliers it is factory locked and will require connecting the L1 bridges to get the multi's,It sounds more like one of your pci card or memory doesn't like the Fsb increase, what board are you running and what is the stepping on that 1600+?, this may help, give all the info you can.

Sorry i took so long, but i had some video stuff to sort out, along with having a crappy 1970's line. I get 28k if im lucky. My steppings i believe are 6.6.2, and ive got some good quality pc2700. Ive got a gigabyte ga7vrx which has some awesome features. maybe my wintv card is causin it?

Well what voltage are you running? Maybe try a boost there. Your temps really are not all that good. We deal mainlly with centigrade here, so referance things that way. Try to keep it bellow 50c. The steeping info on teh chip that we want is 5 letters. There is no software that can tell you, you must take off the HSF and look. It would be somehting like "AGOGA"

Ive tried voltage boosting and this processor has been higher, but wont restart. Gotta clear cmos. And in centigrade its below 45 i believe, but im much of a newbie to metric. My school is a little wierd, Jefferson Middle school in FL., yea 43* or somthin. Well, maybe i need more ram voltage? or is my 350 watt psu not enough?

What do you have your memory timings set at. They might be too aggressive, which could limit your overclock.

Realy? should i goto 2.5 instead of 2? or let it auto config speed? ihave it forcing out 333mhz.

Yes, Try the least aggressive settings (CAS2.5-3-3-6-2) or whatever the equivalent is on in your bios.
See how high you can run stable, then you can start making your timing settings more aggressive until you find your sweet spot.
