I'd get powerstrip if you don't mind that thing at startup. Also rage3d tweak is good but has a lot of garbage like trying to make you fold for them and stuff. Not sure if that's a good or bad score, hard to say since you don't have an XP. Good luck with the OC.

The Rage3d tweak has a ton of tweaks for the card! Just opt-out on the folding when you install it, and avert your eyes whenever the start-up banner loads.

300/300 or close to that is what most ppl shoot for with 8500's... maybe a little less depending on the beefiness of the LE you have.

I have an 8500le also and I flashed the bios to the retail version and im hoping to get as close to 300/300 as possible. It has a corb on it now but I dont think im going to get ramsinks because I dont want to spend the money. I like powerstrip better then rage3d tweak but thats only because I had some problems with some of the older versions of it. The new one might be better but I have not tried it out. What ns ram did you get on yours? I get 9300 or so 3dmarks with my 8500 at 275/275 so im sure it will be better when I get it higher.

use powerstrip for tweaking, get new bios for your board.

for comparison , no overclock on cpu but ran 300/300 on card

ya powerstrip is nice because it works with so many different vendors of video cards but the startup pop up is anoying!

well all the others gave me less profmance , powerstrip alowed me to do with some overclocking 250/250 , to reach 7889 @ that time i had only stock cooling on it. no fans , or nothing so eventualy i started to see artifacts

id be happy with 8000 marks , my old tnt2 gave me 2000 with alot of tweaking

ya prolly do not need bios flash if it is a retail ATI built card just get powerstrip and overclock it to 300/300 then run 3D Mark 2K1 and watch for artifacting

I use a bios editor to overclock my aiw 8500dv cause both rage 3d and power strip have given me problems in the past. you can download it here (http://www.radeon2.ru/radedit_eng.html), unfortunetly the majority of the site is in russian but the documentation is in english. you will also need the bios flashing utility which you can get here (http://www.radeon2.ru/bios/bios_flashrom.zip).

As for the pencil volt mod DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT ATTEMPTING IT!!! you asked how many volts it adds and that is just the problem, the amount of voltage it gives you depends on how hard you press the pencil down and how many times you draw the connection. Thats why I dont reccomend it unless you like the smell of melting RAM, besides your card should hit 300/300 without it.

Even the resistor volt mod started to kill my 1st 8500 slowly. You really need very good cooling if you want to increase the voltages of the card. The fractional performance gains are not worth it IMO.
