this isnt the first time that my computer and i have disagreed on how it should be operating, but it is the first time that theres been lasting damage.
i had been considering moding my case again, but this wasnt exactly what i had in mind.
the dent is in the top, right behind the plastic bezel. the top piece is pop rivited right to the frame so it cannot be taken off.
any ideas?

Howdy
Drill a hole in the middleof the dent, and put a screw into it about three quarters of the way in, get a block of wood and a pry bar/claw hammer, and hook the claw end of either tool under the screw head, while using the block as a fulcrum point, and slowly pull till the dent lifts up. This will leave a hole, but it can be easily patched with some bondo, then sanded smooth and painted.
Or get your hands on a dent puller, either way though it will leave a hole.

Drill out the rivets so you can remove the top. That'll make it easier to work with. Once you're done refasten the top with bolts.

bang it more on all the other sides so it looks like it's suppose to be like that. Then you save all that work. Hey, I would do it.

yea.. mod your case for a hammered look :)
whats the best way to remove the rivits at the top of a case and can they be replaced by standard case screws?

Start with a 1/8" drill bit and drill right through the center of the rivet. Keep using progressively larger bits until you can remove the rivet. You may need larger screws than what you usually find on a case, but the top will be removable after that.

ugh... no way to just pop them out?

No. The whole purpose of a rivet is to be non-removable. If you want to take them out, you'll have to either drill them out or slice off the ends with a dremel tool.

Use a flat head screwdriver and a hammer to smash the heads of the rivit off. Granted its not the way that I would liek to do it, but it has been know to work in a pinch. Then you can lighty hammer the dent out with a rubber mallet on a piece of soft wood.

just out of curiosity, was this a mod gone bad or were u just like ramming it into the ground? How did this happen?

it was a fist into the top of the case kind of tantrum thing.
i think i'll end up just leaving it. i dont really want to put a hole in it to pull out the dent, and i'm moving in a few days and dont have time to do much of anything anyway.
i may end up doing something about it, or maybe its time for a new case. a bigger case. yeah...

If you haven't already taken action, here is another way to go about removing the dent:
find the side where the dent is popping up (the opposite side where you hit it), and place a piece of wood or slice of metal that is flat over it. then take a hammer and hit the wood until your pc case is flat again. This should leave no hammer marks and should make it near perfect!!!
At least that method worked for me once :)

OR, you could get a really strong suction cup and yank the dent out. that's how a body shop got a dent out of my firebirds roof (some jerk dropped a bowling ball on it)

update.
on closer inspection i've found that i didnt just dent the top, i've bent the frame as well. probably the only thing that kept me from doing anything serious was the support of the dvd drive that kept the frame from bending downwards more.

i think i manage it fairly well. after all my projectile-like corldess mouse and keyboard are still in perfect working order ;)
computer problems + moving in a few days and still dont have a truck + starting school again + girlfriend probs + coming off nights at work = a bit of stress.

lol-know how you feel. I break my cupboard doors instead, they are easier to fix and don't hurt as much:)
