ok i bought two 80mm tornados(:) :D  :burn: ) from frozencpu.com. and the come with a 4 pin molex for the power and a 3 pin for rpm. i was wondering how i would go about switching the black and the red cables on the molex to go with the yellow cable in the rpm fan header so i can power the fans with the 3 pin connector and get rid of the molex.. the reason is i want to put them on my digitalDoc5....to turn them off when i want :). so any tips/guides would help:)

I dont think the digidoc can even handle the power draw from the tornado fans enough to even put them down to 7 volt. You could just 7 volt mod the fan and have to just plug into non modified molex to get to 12v. That way you dont ever have to worry about software tools or such to make your cpu fan go into "sleep mode" and fry your cpu. Also that is much more simple than trying a 4 to 3 pin mod

does 7 volt mean off? sorry..im just starting to get the more advanced stuff. i like the noise. but would still like to be able to turn them off at will :)

nope 7 volts is just for most fans make it spin alot slower and less noise. Some fans wont spin at 7v but those are like the super low cfm 80mm fans that are 20ish cfm or such.

o..np i can handle the noise.:)

a lot of people say that but then crack after a week or two. :)

if wildfrogman is right about the fan drawing to much you'll probably have to do your own switch and mount it on your case. and as long as your going to be doing some soldering you might as well get a on/off/on switch and add a resistor to get 12v/off/7v. just in case. at 7v you'll think they're off, but you'll still get the cooling benefit. a tornado has no problem running at 7v, but it may not start at that voltage. mine wont.

btw, just curious but what are you using these fans for that you'll be turning them off? most people use them on a hs.

im using them for just extra case cooling :)

Hmm what a way to annoy people around you not wearing headphones...tornado fans as case fans heheh. Ohwell they should work really good but they arnt really meant to be for case fans as they are more designed for high pressure applications like heatsinks and such have a more focused airflow since they have air vanes on the fan for that reason.

yea..i know. but luckily i am going to be the only one in the room pretty much :) :p

i thought it came with the molex connector because ther 3pin things couldnt handle the power of the tornado
