CD or Gfx Problem?

Hiddy all. Was just wondering something since I play alot of games. I ran D2 yesterday for the first time on this rig I have (Specs should be in sig?). Anyway I have 24x CD-ROM and a Nvidia 32mb GFX card. (Should also be in sig?). The problem I have is,when I run D2 it runs abnormaly slow. And it also says that 3D woud run best with D2. So I switch the game to 3D and the graphics look okay just not to my liking. So I switch it to 2D and the game clogs up,lags. Looks good but very slow. And after around 5-10 minutes it completely locks up my PC. Anyone know if this would by a HDD problem or what? Thanks for all the help everyone :beer: have a good one!

System RAM or Video RAM? When I run D2 my system memory sinks to about 50 megs lol. I have 386 but when I boot the PC I only get around 260. And that's the game setting on Cacheman =/. Thanks for the help =D

I don't know what game you're talking about, but I don't think its a CD problem.

Have you tried shutting down all the background applications through Ctrl/Alt/Del?

Are you trying to get away with a minimal installation on that crappy HDD? A lot of games offer that but I've yet to see one that works properly when 3/4 of the program is being fed off the CD ROM.

And have you checked for patches?

Sorry if you've already tried this stuff, and really sorry if you knew better than to be tripped up by this basic stuff. But if you're not having these system problems with other games or applications, then I gotta believe the problem is with the game itself.

Well... I figured out what was wrong with my CD-ROM. (For some reason the Synch Data Transfer box was checked in it's properties...):confused: No idea how that happened... Anyway I tried to run D2 (or Diablo II,Classic). It's the brand new v 1.09 patch. Ran it on 3D and it locked on me. Not sure if it's my 56K or what... And it's the full install (1.5 gigs :mad: ) And I'm not sure what's wrong with this PC lol. I think the HDD is crapping on me because on boot up I have around only 5-6 total apps running with 3 icons running in the systray. And it seems to boot up slower than sap. Tried TweakUI and a bunch of regtweaks. Soooz I dunno. Any help is appreciated :-/ I just think the HHD is crapping. Thanks for all the help everyone! Have a good one!:beer:
