NVidia always makes me laugh. They are getting their asses handed to them by the 9700, so what do they do? Do they release their new super card? Nope... they just "unleash" a new driver pack that offers up to 25% performance gain.

It makes me wonder what their cards are truly capable of...

Well, like all driver packs, it supports all NVidia cards.

Since they are fighting the R300s, though, I have to assume that the steapest performance increase will be on the GeForce 4 Ti line.

No doubt you'll see something on a Gf3, though.

Wait for the release of the NV30 based cards. ATI will have to play the total price game then, so the 9700s will become pretty affordable. Also, NVidia will chop the prices on the GeForce 4 line.

If you wait until, say, January, you'll be able to get a great card for a great price.

Thats a good point, I always test the new drivers with a 10% CPU overclock no matter what CPU I have.

I also test the new drivers with this particular video card at 331/731 even though I can get much more out of the card.

Anyway with that said I almost got a 1000 point increase. 990 to be exact (previous driver I was using was 31.00, I got close to 1200 points increase over the 29.42)

Hmm this seems suspicious to me. How could they release a driver like this in such a short time? Maybe its been that they've just been keeping this 25% from you the whole time and only giving it to you now that there is a competitor? This is a huge PR move and thats it.

very nice gain sss. i only gained about 600 points due to having to back everything off. it ran at 320/650 the first time... no problems until it went back to windows... it showed the outline for the 3dmark window and rebooted :mad: so i'll try again when i have let my pc be off and cooled down for several hours.

i think they will have alot different drivers for nv30... they were holding these back til 9700 got released.

well there was the same thing for the geforce 3's when the 8500's came out... certainly you've installed those drivers... so i wouldn't expect a whole lot more from your gf2.

well, the 40.41's did better then the 29.42's (the best on my system so far) but i didn't break my top score from when i was running win2K. i got 3398. on 2K i got 3418 with the 29.42's.

my previous score was 3158 with 29.42's on XP. i gained 240 points. better then what i was expecting at least.

These new drivers are driving me back to stock speeds. I had my Geforce 2Ti at 260/490, but 3Dmark would just close itself during the first part of the test. And the lower I set my speeds at the longer 3Dmark lasts before quiting. Now Im at 230/440 and its still quiting back to the desktop. This sucks. I wanna Overclock!!!

its no surprise to me, its just what they did with the Det4s, when the 8400 came out they dropped them out just to out shadow the 8500

its actually a good business idea, rip off your customers, until a new competitor comes in and then give them what they eserved in the first place to make them feel "wow, nvidia sure has great driver support" lol ;)

Well, I was a bit disappointed. On my PC the NV control panel applet AGAIN stopped working when I installed this driver. Reverting back to an old nvcpl.dll made no difference. And on my bro's PC Warcraft III stopped loading and loads of things started crashing.

Dammit, I needed that performance increase too! I've had an Athlon 1.4GHz with a GeForce2 MX400 64MB for about 11 months and everything's getting slow already. :(

Hehe, that's not rdram :D That's good 'ole ddr sdram, a big L2 cache, and a 668MHz fsb. And a entire butt-load of clock rate... hehe. Your competive scores with the AXP are impressive though, if they had Intel to manufacture their chip for them it would compete or exceed the current P4 offerings (due to more clock rate).

OK - my euphoria is stopped - and now I finally learned just talking about 3D marks isn´t the right thing to praise one driver!

I just played "Big Scale Racing" and "F1 2002" - and the quality decreased drastically!

Driving slow - no problem - no obvious quality decrease.
Driving fast - aaaaargh - the road turns into long stripes and is hardly to recognize as road any longer!!

Think I´ll go back to 29.42 !!!

I gave up on them. I backed the timing back to stock, but 3D Mark still couldn't run Point Sprites. I tried reinstalling them, uninstalling Riva Tuner, no dice. But maybe that is just for a GF 2.

I got a 800-1100 point improvement with the drivers. I cant remember exactly, o well i should have written the numbers down. But i think i cant go higher, the card was at 310/540. My highest OC on the card was 322/561. Tomorrow when i have time to mess with it again ill try and run 3dmark with the card set to 315/560 and set what i get. Maybe 13100 or so:)

After reading a lot of forums, these drivers appear to do the following:
-increase 3dmark scores in most high end systems by up to 10% most notably in the nature test
-sometimes increase fps with high end cards in high quality settings with a few games
-sometimes with some games increase AA peformance of high end cards
-sometimes reduce performance in a few games on various systems
-in most games on most systems performance change stays within 1%
-generally reduce image quality in most games
-disable bi/trilinear filtiring at default settings
-in some cases reduce image quality so much that games become unplayable
-generally reduce AA quality in most games
-change the control panel and add options
-sometimes fix and sometimes create refresh rate issues

Summary: drivers do increase performance on high end systems/cards in a few situations, most noticably in 3dmark. Performance increase in games in general is quite rare and sometimes the performance is even reduced. In general, performance in most games and most situations is about the same. Image quality is lowered quite a bit in a lot of games, same goes for AA quality.

am also starting to not like thes drivers am still trying to figure y quake 3 is so friken dark even whith briteness all the way up in the settings and the image quality is down big deal up to 25% in 3d mark but less performance in real gamming @ high res 1600/1200, had to underclock my card abit to. so far i thingk thes driver were just thrown together to boost 3dmark scores to fight ati 9700 just a merketing skeem they did a very poor job.

Thats my only complaint with this driver, GTA3 look bad, the cars are someone elongated...

Somethings not quiete right with this driver set.....good scores mean jack to me if the images are distorted....back to 29.42 or 31.00 for me. :(

these driver's should be bata to meny problems whith them went back to 30.81 which were just relesed 2 weeks ago shure i like to see 3dmarks go up but they actully perform worce on games on some resolutions and very little or no gain on others.

My 3DMark score increased over 600 points. The only thing though is that it only seemed to increase the performance in the Nature run (all other tests were on par with the last drivers). This was a dramatic increase though, enough to boost overall performance up 600 points. With the 29.80's my Nature run scored 62.1. With the 40.41's my Nature run scored 83.4. All other tests are close to the same.

besides DiabloII being alittle dark and crashing all the time, I think the 40's look just fine.. I have gone back to the preivous version I was using so I can continue to rot my mind playing DII..
