im building a comp for my friend. he wants it primarily to be sound based. he has a lot of connections he needs (midi and some other stuff...im not sure)...would there be a better choice than the audigy platinum? i seem to recall another brand that offered something similar....

No, Can't go wrong with the audigy platinum.

You could go with a turtle beach sata cruz soundcard but the audigy has that box that you mount in a cd rom drive bay and also comes with the remote (I think), if that stuff isnt important then the turtle beach card is a good option. You and your friend should at least check out the specs on that card on the turtle beach website, it has some cool features.

Go with either the Audigy or the Phillips Accoustic Edge.


Tell him to wait until the new Audigy 6.1 line is released. The high end model will supposedly support DTS E.S.
