Hi
I've got a hardwarerouter with an included switch. On this switch a PC (PC1) is connected. Everything fine so far. But the switch is in another room than than PC1 and there is only one cable going there. Now i have 2 PC's in this Room. PC1 and PC2. I also want to connect PC2 to the Network/Internet, but there is as i said only one cable. But PC1 has 2 NIC's. So i came up with the idea, to connect PC2 to PC1 (with crossover/crosslink) and PC1 to the switch. Then i'd install some kind of software on PC1 and that would solve my prob.
PC2 should be able to surf in the internet, and should be able to see the files shared by other users.
Does that work? Any idea on what software to use?

Whqt do you mean only 1 cable? 1 cat5 from the PC1 to the router or is this router only equipped with a single network port? (which would be pretty stupid and IFDNB.. unheard of and completly pointless)

If the setup you described is accurate then you may want to look into WinProxy as a decent starting/learning experience (Installed on PC1)

nope, the router has a switch included, with many poorts. but the cable (cat5) has to go through a hole in the wall. so i can't connect another cable to the switch in that room.

go get a really cheap 4 port hub and use that top plug both machines into the 1 cable.

Because PC1 has 2 NIC's, i though it would be somehow possible to do connect the second one to the first one and the first one to the switch.

it is possible.. just alot more annoying to setup and get working then driving to the store and dropping 20 bucks on a hub.

your router should have a port labled link or something to that effect. This would be the port specificly designed to accept a cat5 plugged into another router or hub.

probably the best solution to buy one.

I know how to connect them ;)
