The defrag prog that comes with norton utilities does a nice job, and is muuuch faster than the preinstalled windows version. :burn:

Diskeeper 7 is the fastest defrag prog. However, it is not available to try for free. You'll just have to trust me on it.

Buy Norton Utilities or Norton SystemWorks. I have the latter and the defrag works pretty well, but I've heard there are better ones out there.

I'm using win me's scandisk and defrag with my FAT32 98install and it works much better than the stock 98se version. ME has a lot of nice advanced features. Too bad the whole OS adds up to far less than the sum of its parts.
NTFS is a whole differant animal.

Diskeeper lite is a freeware defrag utility
Info: http://www.execsoft.com/freeware/diskeeper-lite/download.asp
Dowload: http://www1.execsoft.com/dklite.exe
To use win 98se defrag is like a stick in the eye, if and when you get it over 10% you will be one of the lucky few; go buy a loto ticket, i't your lucky day. I can't say Nortons is the best but it works great for me.I use 2002 Works.

I love the FREE Diskeeper7lite. Not as fancy as the full Diskeeper version but kicks the crap out of pre ME versions. ME's not bad but I still like dklite better. Full version runs in the background while you still work on your computer. Lite runs only in manual like windows defrag.exe but much better. I've never tried Norton.

I'll have to third that, it works great, has options for how you want files organized, integrates right into the computer management console. I luv it, live it and swear by it:cool:
