I think Norton is the cause of my lagging in games. Does anyone know of a way to turn it off, if i'm not the administrator. I can't uninstall it because, then parents will check it out. I need to be able to "turn it on and turn it off" type thing. Any suggestions.

If you can't turn off the Auto-Protect as a normal user, then there really isn't anything you can do except explain to your parents that it's lagging your games and if you can turn it off while you play.
why aren't you the administrator... i would go nuts if i was restricted like that in my OWN HOME! not trying to be an anarchist or anything but tell your parents that they are uptight and then get the admin password. you probably have less chance of breaking something than they do anyhow! btw if you arent administrator i doubt you can uninstall it anyway.

Well, since i can't discuss hacking the admin password [ its against the forum rules...:) ], you'd have to resort to finding out how to disable it. Usually, you'd disable the norton firewall by right clicking the green globe on the systray and click "disable" to disable the firewall, click yes to the warning and its disabled from there.
Or u can just reformat ur comp and set urself as admin and do everything over. Or just go ahead and be a man and ask ur parents for the password.

No admin rights? O god... If I don't have them, I don't use the computer. Unless its for a class at school or something, in which case I'm miserable.
If you can't access everything, you can't tweak your OS correctly... that makes the computer soo horrible...

I'm the admin of the computer, just not norton. I guess i'll just keep looking around. Maybe i can disable it on startup somehow.

I use Norton Internet Security and I am the administrator. I have played with it on and off....no difference! I play Q3 mostly.
