My DSL is tweaked and tested, I am running full throttle yet my Peer to peer apps are not?!?!
Any suggestions to tweak kazza or explanation why it is slow when my connection is fast.
I know that kazza and other peer to peer download speeds depend on users upload speed and internet speed...however as of late my average download speed on kazza has been 1.7kbs average....it used to average 20 or more.
Also I have two puters....if they are both running kazaa or similar file sharing apps will my speed take a hit?
LAN's don't use the same tcp window settings as the optimum settings for broadband, so when you apply patches that optimize for internet it may decrease your performance over the LAN. That being said, I have never really seen much of a difference with or without those patches. I think the biggest performance gains come from a well designed network with quality equipment.

I did not know that...I always wondered about those "DSl tweaks".

also your P2P apps are just that.. peer to peer.. you're downloading off other peoples machines, and if they're using they're connection already, or there on a crowded node, or its a busy time of the day/night.. you will get ****ty speeds compared to say looking at a website, or downloading something off of downloads.com

I know what u are saying...I was just wondering if maybe there is some kinda prob w/ Kazaa that i have not heard of. I suppose there are so many factors involved w/ peer to peer apps that you could not narrow it down. I just miss those 30-80kbs download speeds...they seem more and more rare these days.
I kinda have a theory, that if isp's are capping lines than users may be reducing the upload speeds in order to save bandwidth...i did that when my old isp starting capping my bandwidth.
Even if it's peer to peer you're limited by the bandwidth of the WAN.

Hehe, I'm lucky to get 4k/s on any downloads. Anything over 3k is very good for me.

Download something from microsoft or some site that has a lot of speed and see if you get good speeds. I get from 200 to 400k downloads with my cable.

here is a list of places to test your speeds...they are pretty varied in their locations so that should be a good way find your average kbs.

Most peoples personal computers cant upload a file, or work as a server, as fast as a reputable websites server. At my college campus, when I download at night on Kazaa, i get up to 460 kb/s. During the day there, i get about 30 kb/s, not only because alot of people are on kazaa, but because the bandwidth at the campus is being shared. Same is true with cable connections.. your sharing a line with your neighborhood. Yes, its capped, and can only go so high, but theres no limit to how low it can go.
By the way, here at home with Adelphia, I've downloaded a 10mb file from microsoft in about 10 seconds.
