I am thinking of trying to network 2 computers this is what I would like to try. First off comp 1 has 2 NIC,1onboard, and 1 pci. Comp 2 1 NIC. If I use cable from comp 2 nic and connect to comp 1 nic 2 and connect comp 1 nic 1 to cable internet will this work for network. If so will comp 2 be able to access internet through comp 1 NIC?:eh?:

Yes it will work but you will need to enable ICS (Internet connection Sharing) in window's to do it. It will basically turn the PC with 2 NIC's into a software router.

No if you want to add more PC's you will need to get a router, hub, or switch. I don't think ICS will run more then two PC's without one of the above. Another thing I forgot to mention is I believe you will need to get a network Crossover cable to go between the two PC's. You can't use a standard unless your using a router, switch, or hub. The cable going from you modem to the 1st PC just need's to be a standard cable though.

I hope this all make's sense to you.

okay, then if I am adding a 3rd(new system) I will need a router, and a network crossover cable, but if just adding 1 I only need a standard cable? RJ 45? Excuse my ignorance but we only have 1 radio tack in small town w/no knowledgable help. Any rec. onwhat type of router to get $50-100 wireless not necessary.

Actually it's the other way around. If you have a router. You don't need a crossover cable at all. If you don't use a router you need the crossover cable to run between the two PC's. The reason you don't need the crossover cable with the router is because the router does that for you.

I hope that clarify's thing's a bit for you.

As far as what router to buy. I'm by far no expert in this feild at all. I've got the Linksys BEFSR41 4 port router. I't very easy to setup and run. It does what I need it to do for me.
