I want to put two nic cards into two computers (one in each) and connect then via a network lan cable. All I can get it to do is tell me that a Network Cable is unplugged on one computer and the other one says "this device cannot start" under the control panel. What am I doing wrong here?

You mean it say's the NIC cannot start? Have you tried moving it to a different PCI slot? Could be an IRQ conflict. I've ran into that alot. Some deviced just don't like to share IRQ's with certain other devices.

First of all, do you have a cross-over cable? A regular one will not work.

NP glad we could help. Good Luck.
You could just pick up a hub or switch. Then I don't believe you would need the crossover cable.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
