I want to turn off the username and password requirements in Windows XP. Anytime I build a new computer and set it up, I like connecting to my main computer to copy some necessary install programs, instead of downloading them and finding them. Problem is, I have to go to my main computer and add a user account with that computer's login and password. Annoying, to say the least. How can I set Windows XP so it doesn't ask for a user name and password when I have someone connect to my computer?

thats weird, i thought just 2k did that. How are u sharing files? I have my server setup just like u explained. whenever i get a new pc on i take files off my server for install. Large installs like software u will need to map it but small stuff np.
let me know ur process for sharing, maybe u didnt something ur not suppose to.
I just right click on the folder then select sharing and check the share this folder on my network, and uncheack allow change cuzz i just want them to read not mess with my files. Thats it, and it works fine for every1.

About the only thing you can do is map the drive, that way you only have to enter the password once.

Theoretically if you used the same admin username and no password on the machines you wouldn't have a problem gaining a seat on the machine.
