Meanwhile, to compete with Advanced Micro Devices’s (AMD) K8-core processors, Intel has decided to introduce Hyper-Threading technology, currently adopted only by workstations, into its P4 processors that will run at clock speeds of 3.06GHz and above.
The Hyper-Threading technology, which enables one processor to work as a dual-processor set, requires supporting chipsets and operating systems (usually Windows NT and above) for full performance. Intel’s new DDR333 chipsets, the 845GE and 845PE, can both support the technology.
