View Full Version : polished metal
well here i am again. I found this great looking anodized colored paint but it needs to be sprayed on a polished/shiny surface or use the primer. I prefer the hard way and want to polish the metal on the case to use but it needs to be perfect or the scratches become very pronounced with the color. what is the best way to basically get the metal to a mirror finish? some sort of polishing compound or steel wool? any ideas greatly appreciated.

where did you find that paint?
Do tell.....
I wanted to know how to get it mirror finish or as close as possible, it needs to look like chrome and i should probably mention the case is steel.
i got it at schucks, it's a local autoparts store aka checker and kragen. it's called metalcast when i get camera i'll post some pics of the stuff.

Someone find the link to that paint job someone did making their case a black mirror by paint and polishing
i have already seen that in fact i have on my desktop but the paint goes straight onto the metal, NO PRIMER. So i need to make the paint look nice.

I am trying to do the same with my Power Supply (Polishing)...
So far, I have used Wet/Dry Sand paper (I think same stuff used to Lap a heat sink.
I hope to find one of those large diameter buffing/polishing wheels, for a bench grinder....That might do the trick.

It would probably work to just follow the steps they use, minus the primer, and then use the buffing compound. It should work well after that.
don't use a buffing compound, you don't want to paint onto any residue that this will leave behind
