im building my 1st computer and i cant seem to get the dam heatsink on.. its driving me nuts and i dont want to break anything. I have a abit kx7 333 mobo and a athlon xp 1600 my heatsink is a thermalright ax-7 plz some1 help me =[[[[
well first make sure you have the cpu core clean and hsf clean then put on the artic silver on the core (instructions at www.articsilver.com) and then mount the heatsink. To mount the heatsink lay it centered on the chip and dont move it then clip the side witout the screwdriverholder onto the socket and then take a screw drivers put it into the holder and it takes a lt of force but push down until the other side clamps...then plug in your fan and go check yur temp in bios..one thing though get a screwdriver that fits well theres nothing more annoying then killing oyur mobo b/c you hit a trace with a screw driver..

I have the same setup.. and it was MAJOR hard to get it on... try removing the power supply from the compter.. .thats how I got mine on.. just uncrewed it... moved the power supply, and took a small flathead screwdriver and forced it on.. the motherboard was seated on the case already though... which was because I added the heatsink later... I ran stock for 2 months.. then replaced it cus I hated my CPU idling at 59 degrees... now with the AX7 and a vantec tornado.. it idles at a nice 40 to 42 :)
Edit - Also try not to slide the heatsink around a lot... dont wanna damage the thermalpaste before you even get it on.. and dont use the stuff they gave you with the heatsink...

What is the exact problem? Is it that it doesnt fit? Or are you having trouble clipping it on?
