At one of the electronics surplus warehouses here in town, I found a box of 92MM 12V 3.8W fans. They are the turbaxial style. Metal housing metal turbine blades. They are new, but bearing a 1990 date code. They were made by EBM. I tried their web site, but could not find a reference to this particular model number. They turn 2850 RPM. Slight hint of whine from the turbine style blades, but really push the air with authority due to being thick. The markings read:
ebm W2G086-AB36-01 Made in W-Germany
US Pat 4,473,782. Hmmm perhaps a patent search might help. In the mean time, if have an older ebm catalog or line card, have a look for me. Interesting sidenote. Extremely strong gyroscopic effect when running. TIA

Shoot, the patent was for the brushless DC motor circuitry :-(

Do you really need to know more about these fans? I'll guesstimate that they push a minimum of 65 cfm. They should be excellent for spot cooling. They'll work as case fans in a pinch. They are probably loud. As they are made in Germany, it's a safe bet that they're a quality fan. You might mount two with the axes of rotation 90 degrees apart. Case gyro stabalization is an unusual feature, maybe you'll start a trend.
