Algae?

so what do you guys do for algae? despite the fact that I used pure De-I water from a Lab and added about 4 capfuls of water wetter to the system, it appears to be possible growing some algae on the walls of the tubes after about a month and a half run time. the system is totally closed (no res) with tygon tubing of course... I'm not ENTIRELY sure its algae, cause although the cloudyness of the tubes does APPEAR to have a green tinge, that might just be suggestive thinking on my part. what do you guys think? please limit suggestions to things that dont require re-filling :P cause that would SUCK

well if you do end up emptying your system then you should save the algae.... and eat it! :) People are making a killing nowadays selling blue-green algae... no joke....

Go to the local pet store and buy some algae killer. They've got liquid and tablets. Get the liquid, cause you'll be using only a drop of it (one tablet equals about 25 drops...enough for a 10 gallon tank.)

they also sell it at pool supply stores, just go to the counter and ask for some algecide

If your water is CLOUDY too, you can pick up some water clarifier, this will make it clear. ACCU-CLEAR is a good brand. Only a couple of drops are needed!

Is this a common problem ? I have water weter in my system. Should i go get some algae killer too?

I would rather do preventative stuff than deal with the problems later.

I think this is more of a problem for people with bong setups, and large resivours.

I usually add about 30% wipperfluid (methynol) to my water +waterwetter and a drop of flouraseant dye.

60% distilled water
30% wipper fluid
7% waterwetter
3%UV dye

In that mixture algea has no chance of forming.......and it looks purty.;)
