Wife bought me a 40 Gig IBM Deskstar 120GXP.

I hear the older "gxp" models were crap.

How has the 120GXP been holding up. I am not hearing bad things about them?

Yea the 75GXP is the worst and what I unfortunately have is the 60GXP which is the 2nd worse.

Mine likes to do stuff like....... Make funny noises for the first 5 minutes the computer is on, randomly lose files like NTFS.sys, stop doing anything for a few seconds and then start again......and the list could go on an on.

Hopefully that one you got is better though.

Well I had 2 IBM drivers die on me in less than a year. One 75GXP and a 60GXP.. Now I'm on my third drive.. but the new version of the 60GXP looks different than the old version..

OMG

Common guys. The 75GXp performed awesome.
There were a good amount of drives out on the market that had overheating problems which lead to data corruption.

I had 2 drives die on me like that.
But Im still succesfully runnning a 160 GIG 4x40Gigs of 75GXP RAID (0) Array that runs flawlessly since I bought them.

Just some bad drives ruinned the repp of all the IBM drives.

THe 120 GXPs corrected the overheating problems. And are very reliable and fast.

PLzzzz don't bad mouth IBM because of a few bad eggs it layed.

i have 2 80gig 120gxps in raid 0, and they are extremely fast, and have worked flawlessley so far, even at 41.5fsb. i am very pleased.

edit: i mean pci bus, not fsb. (166 fsb with 1/4 divisor)

So I have the 40 Gig 120GXP in and running. Seems to be running great.

Only had it in a couple weeks, but doing good so far.

I had 2 60 gxps and both of them died at the same time. I was running them raid and had problems with them for a while. Now they are rmaed and Im waiting for them to give me different ones. I only had the things for less then a year. I have pos 1 gig fujitsu right now and a new Radeon 9700 that I want to play with. Taking too long for hard drives.

IBM is now together with this other company...(forgot the name)
So i'd stay away from IBM. They don't seem to be that good lately.
