Newegg has the black 40x12x48 for 61. Impressive as usual.

When you click on the detail spec on newegg for the $61 black 40x liteon it says somewhere in there 33.3MBs/sec. Does this mean it is ATA33? Or am I wrong?

Under specifications it says:
Interface : ATAPI-E/IDE, support up to Ultra-DMA Mode2, 33.3MB/sec

Right, Ultra ATA 33 interface.

That doesn't make sense. Why not ATA100? My Sony CD-RW is ATA100 and that is about 1 year old already. I guess it's okay, I have a 32x and it is fast. But ATA33 is old.

Mike,

I very much doubt your CDRW is ATA100... MOST CDROMS and CDRWs are UATA33. Note that this 33MB/sec is the INTERFACE speed.... which is already MUCH more than what's needed to write at 40x : (150Kb/sec x 40 = 6Mb/sec).... This is why most manufacturers are happy and do not go to a 100Mb/sec interface just to transfer at most 6.
