this is probably a really stupid question, but in my girlfriends computer she has a 4gig HDD. I have a spare 6gig HDD knocking around (its a maxtor), can i just add another one or is it more complicated?

any suggestions or comments are appreciated, thanks in advance!

:)

<oops> i didnt realsie there was a hard drive section...can move this thread if neccessary...sorry.

Yes it's very easy. The motherboard should have an option of up to 4 IDE Devices in the system. The HDD's get a seperate channel and the CD-ROM should get a different channel as well. The HDD (4gig) is running on the Primary channel and most likely the primary jumper and there's room for 2 on an IDE Cable.

What you do is look at the HDD and read the instructions on the HDD and it shows you a layout of the jumper settings, move the jumper to whatever is shown for "Slave" and then you connect the HDD into the secondary connector of the IDE Cable already connected to the motherboard and the HDD. It's the middle connector. Plug in the power and then go in the bios and BIOS Options and set it so it detects what drives you have at the startup.

ya its easy if you have another hdd cable solt(most mobos do) and another cable then just plug it in and have fun
if you use the same cable(some have two plugs) as you first hdd make sure it is set to slave on its jumpers

hope that makes sense/helps

or you could just set both jumpers to cable select and put the main drive on the first IDE conection..

Raid is not just 2 hard drives. Read all about it. (http://forum.oc-forums.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=104802)
