I have: 128mb micron ddr pc2100
256mb crucial ddr pc2100

i want to put the crucial in my new system and buy another 256 of samsung ddr to go with it, then i can give the 128 to my g/f. so, is this going to be a reasonable overclocker, or should i just use the 256 of crucial and wait till i can afford another 100 bux for another 256 of the same?

also, i found that crucial make 3 different versions of the 256mb ddr, good, better and even better - should i get the best or will good suffice.

sorry if this makes no sense...but i need help....my case is arriveing today and my xp 1600 from newegg will arrive tommorrow i hope so im trying to make sure i have everything i need to start putting this system together.

any help would be appreciated, i thank you in advance for your posts. :)

It is best to have 2 identical sticks in your computer. 100 bucks seems pretty steep for 256 of pc2100.

If possible stick with the same brand and type. The mixture will only make your system only as fast as the slowest stick.

go to www.pricewatch.com

You can almost always get things cheaper online.

Mixing memory brands at or below the rated speeds of both chips is no problem. But then you get issues like this... Samsung may overclock well, as does micron.... But Micron (crucial) LOVES extra voltage. Samsung doesn't get far with it, indeed it might shorten its life. Crucial is $62 shipped on pricewatch now.
