I have just installed a Zalman flower heatsink onto my Athlon xp1600+ and my temps jumped up to 43C from an average of 35 with my taisol!
I have follwed the instructions, used ASIII and have the supplied fan running at max rpm.

Any input would be appreciated :)

they are not supposed to be for overclocking.
As far as i know, they are just ment for quiet running on stock xps - which is why the temps are higher

The cpu is running @ stock speeds, should I still expect to see such an increase?

yeah that incress sounds about right for that heatsink.
do you even have a fan on it?

I have the Zalman for the Pentium 4, I have two fans (120mm and 80mm) attached to the thing blowing down on the heatsink and its working well.

the fan bracket (like in this pic here http://www.ocworkbench.com/2002/zalman/6500alcu/6500A-alcu3b.gif) just has enough space to fit both fans

I was considering one of those once (because I dont really overclock) but I dont know if I really want it, dont have the money for anything right now anyway because I am getting a TV tuner.

The same thing happened to me once. I didn't put enough ASIII and there was a small section of the CPU not making good contact with the base of the heat sink. I could see it when I pulled them apart. You might want to check that if you haven't already.

I have checked and the heatsink was/is making proper contact with CPU. I am not overly concerned about this increase, I just wanted to know if this was to be expected.
Thanks for info peolpe :)
