Hey, lucky me!! i won a heatsink for my project posted on the main Overclockers site- but my current HSf that came with my PC is VERY securly fastened to my Mobo, im not confident enough to put lots of pressure onto my lugs to get it off, just incase i break my Mobo or my processor.

This my seem like a daft question so please bear in mind that im a total novice- but how the fleck can you take off the heatsink? as far as i know- its just a standard hs, so my new one will come in handy.. but its not any good if i cant get my old one off.

only other choice is can i put a heatsink NO TOP of another- might be a bit big though.

my little addition to the O/C.com family.

by the way- i dont know what im being sent- i'll let u know when i get it.

What heatsink do you have? Don't put the new heatsink on the old one because it will not transfer the heat from the old hs to itself and if you don't have automatic shutdown on a set temp you can burn your cpu. A picture would help alot more. Or if you tell the exact brand and model we can tell you how to take it off. Most heatsinks are removed by either pressing your thumb down on the bigger side of the clip. Or if it has a socket for a screwdriver, you stick the screwdriver in there and press down and move the clip away from the lug. Then do the same for the other side but without the screwdiver.

sorry mike, but i have no idea on what my current heatsink is, i bought a store-assembled PC from PcWorld last year, when i didnt even know about overclocking.

it has a single lug- but ive been reluctant to fiddle with my bitz (oo err) just incase- and all of the reviews/guides seem to assume that you know what to do.

if it helps, i have a P4 and theres a 60mm fan ontop of it.

It's probably an Intel unit, It should have 2 levers on opposite sides of the fan that you flip over to release pressure on the heatsink then you have to unclip the top of the frame assembly with the fan attached from the bottom assembly attached to the motherboard.

You could use it as a deep sea finshing weight

Ammo for a 3 man slingshot

perhaps as a bank for a GI JOE play scene :)
