View Full Version : Getting CPU Tomorrow AND....!! I need alittle Help
I have a Tai-Sol CGK742092. I just received this HSF also. What I need to Know is what DO I have to do To the HSF b4 I Mount it on top of CPU...It has some sort of Sticky type thing in the Middle of Bottom. Like Thermal Adhesive. I bought Artic Silver2 and am going to be using that. So what do I use to get that paste off and What else do I need to do? Any links to anywhere for Information would be appreciated also. Thank You

It might be a thermal tape or then it's some (crappy) thermal paste protected by a thingy (to keep it from spreading, or something).
Be easy with that ArcticSilver2! You have to push it slowly, otherwise it'll spurt out too much. At least my syringe does that. First time I used it, there came out so much, I could even cover my shimm. On both sides...
At the bare minimum, scrape off the thermal pad and then clean with a solvent. Better yet, lap the HS after doing the above. Check www.articsilver.com for application instructions. You may want to read the technical papers at Artic Silvers Site to understand why lapping is the only way to totally remove the thermal pad.
do you guys use silicon or anything like that on the corners of your heatsinks to get a better seal? what about when you just want to mount to a chipset?
No I know all this...I know how to put on thermal Paste I need to know what I need to do to the HeatSink. Like what Do I use to Scrap that crap off bottom and what's Lap?
Lapping is polishing. See the Lapping my Volcano II thread.

Use rubbing alcohol and a q-tip or lint free cloth to get it off.

Every heatsink should be lapped, period.
