I've been experiencing the following problem with IE and Opera:

When reaching to a page, it doesn't shows the latest page, but one fron a certain date (it's stuck at the 16th of August). Even using the refresh button brings the same page. When accesing the same page thrue a query from Excel, it access the same old page not the new one. When I go to another machine in the same network, I can easily get the updated page. I have tried correcting this killing all the cookies, temp files and clearing the history, with no success.

This can be seen in this thread (http://forum.oc-forums.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=118399), when I question the refreshing of a graph in the ocsetiteam site and the link shown in the first post.....any help is appreciated.

You didn't save the page as a complete webpage to view offline or anything, did you? If you did, try synchronizing your saved webpages and seeing if that does the trick.

This is a very strange problem, esp. in that it seems to affect all your web-capable apps for just one site. -- Paul

Still stuck with that problem Juan? Synchronizing is something I hadn't thought of. I never use the offline viewing feature. What happens if you try to pull the page up with no internet connection?

I don't think I have ever used the off-line viewing feature. AS this happens in my work PC, and I'm always online. I just sometimes sevs the whole web page if there are some instructions, so I can have a quick reference in case I need them :D

I tried to syncronization feature, but I don't have any off-line viewing page, it did not solve the problem.....going to some other sites it keep an old page instead of refreshing to the newer ones.....

anyone?

have you cleared your cache?

Try holding down the shift button while clicking refresh/reload. This forces the browsetr to contact the host for the files instead of pulling from the cache

Been there, done that.....

The cache was wipped, the temporal files deleted, the cookies dumped.....only thing I lack is manually killing the cache and temporal internet files i find in my HD.....

This is getting stranger all the time. Try deleting all tmp files on your system - just search for *.tmp and dump all of them. Have you tried holding down shift while hitting refresh?

All tmp files deleted, all cookies dumped, all history flushed.....and while holding shift I clicked refresh and this is the page shown in my browser......

P.S. Just to be sure, how do I get sure the cache is cleared?

It looks like that is when they last updated their page at their site. You might have the most recently updated page. They have posted problems with their server updates.

What's the exact URL for that page so we can check it out?

The URL is

http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/stats/team/team_type_0.html

just check it a see it by yourselves (I have seen it in another PC in the same network (IP cluster) and it shows the page dated for September 9th.

I'm getting Sept. 9 (today) when I check. -- Paul

Yep, but in my machine it does not display that sheet, instead it display the page of August 16th.....the same happens in several other pages:

*In www.planethalflife.com it still displays the latest news as in the August the 7th.
*It sometimes happens on www.guru3d.com

Several others that I haven't had the time to write down (as I assumed that no news were uploaded)

Tools>Internet Options>General>(TemporaryInternetFiles) Settings

from "Automatically" to "Every visit to the page"

Would that help?

Honestly, this is bizarre. It affects IE and Opera? Mozilla, too, I suppose?

You haven't saved the page anywhere on the computer? No cookies? No refresh settings amiss? Cache's and temp files cleared? You've restarted your computer, too?

It affects both IE and Opera, I don't use Mozilla. I haven't saved the page in my PC. This also happens to several other pages or even images.

For example, take the challenge graph in the Team Stats page in www.ocsetiteam.com. I see the updated stats for the team but keep seeing the same challenge graph from the 13th.....taking into account that I update the server myself.

I restart my machine every 2 or 3 days, as the OS is Windows 98se......but the problem persisr after restarts.

And as I have told before, I have deleted the cookies, temp files and history. The only thing left is manually emptying the cache, but I don't know how.

Well, obviously it's getting old data from somewhere, and it seems likely the only place it could get old data is from some place on your machine. Have you tried searching the entire hard drive for copies of the old html and image files that keep showing up?

That seems like a good idea. Make sure to include hidden and system filesin the search, too. -- Paul

Do you mean that I have to open the search from windows (Windows key+F) and check for html files in my HD? Please be more explicit about it, as I got lost in this last suggestion......THKS for all the time all of you are taking in this item.

Maybe you could simplify your search by just searching for all html files within your documents and settings folder (which, I believe, is where a user's it cache, etc., is stored.) Make sure to also include hidden and system files in the search.

What he's saying is that there has to be some copy of it floating around there somewhere, perhaps not in a standard place. (But try standard places first.) Just curious -- when was the last time you reinstalled your OS? If it was more than 6 months ago, you're probably due for it, and it would certainly fix the problem. :)

Another interesting thing to try would be to change the temporary file folder. (Go to IE options.)

Honestly, this is one of the strangest things I've ever run across. -- Paul

Didn't find copies of the webpage or jpg files that keep comming like a nightmare to me. As for the last time I installed the OS, it was if my memory serves me right, about 8 months ago.....I was thinking that if can't solve this one soon, I'll format reinstal everything, but as that would be the solution my suport staff would do, I was hopping to get to the root of the problem and solve it instead of just starting from the beginning. :D

So, any other solutions?

Hmm, not sure. Do you have any customized security features in IE? Also, are you using a bookmark or typing the URL each time.

I know that google stores a cached version of webpages, and you can click on the cached version link instead of the real link. That sort of behavior is also possible.

But the funny thing is, as complete reinstall would've been a more efficient solution to the problem. (Fact is stranger than fiction sometimes.)

I'm absolutely stumped on this one. I can only recommend a reinstallation. Sorry!!! But if you ever happen to determine the cause, please let us all know! Good luck! -- paul

When accesing the site, I do it several ways. Some of the times I type the url, sometimes using the drop list that you can access from the address field. Other times I return with a link from one page or other, sometimes from a search site or another webpage.....

I really don't know what else I need to do.....I think that I'll refresh my history, dump my cache, erase all the cookies, delete all tmp files and reboot and see what happens.

*shakes head* Well, that's weird. I'm really at witt's end as to what to do additionally. Yeah, I guess just give that a try and see what happens. -- Paul

This one is really strange. After the last time I did at the same time all the above (kill cookies, history, tmp files, and restart) I'm able to get the new info from the sites.....Seems that when I killed tmp files without deleting the history one old copy of the info was smuggled around by the system (well thats my supposition) and after flushing the system memory (with the reboot) I can access the new information from the web.....

Well, anyway thinks seems to be getting uphill.....If I have another problem (or discory) I'll keep you all posted about.

THKS for all the time this investigation took.....

Mictlan, I'm really glad to hear it works now! I still think it was strange, but I'm glad it works. Have a great weekend -- Paul
