View Full Version : Has anyone overclocked a 2.4A P4? Post results if you have
I am looking to get either the 2.2A or 2.4A, but don't know which one to get. The price difference isn't that much anymore, so I would definitely consider the 2.4A if it will overclock well. Only reason I am not considering a 2.26 is because I have a ABIT TH7-II with Kingston PC800 ValuRAM, and I don't think I will get too much out of my memory. So how high do you think the 2.2A or 2.4A will go? Will probably get the 2.4A since they cost the same now. Just haven't seen many people get the 2.4A and overclock it, so if you have, please post your results! Thanks!!

I bought the 2.4 when it was released. Mine never overclocked well. It takes lots of voltage to get to 2892 , 1.90v to be exact. Maybe if i use extreme cooling it'll do something well above 3.0Ghz but i have yet to try.

I have both the 2.2a and the 2.4a, the 2.2 does 3036/ the 2.4a does 2836/ identical voltages in the same exact system.
The problem I really don't know how well my TH7-II or Kingston PC800 ValuRAM will overclock, so even if I do get the 2.2A with better overclocking potential, not sure if my board or memory will handle it. So should I get the 2.2A or 2.4A? They are at the same price point right now.

I would love to get the 533MHz P4s, but I am afraid that my memory and motherboard will not do much FSB overclocking. I don't even know how well the TH7II I have (which was bought at the beginning of the year) will overclock. I am taking a seriously look at the 2.2A, or just the 1.8A to save some money, and maybe upgrade to a C1 stepping P4 when they do become available. So you guys still think the 2.26B or 2.4B is the way to go?
Good point. Not everybody should get a 133 Mhz FSB Northwood because not all mobos and RAMs can deal with 170-180 Mhz FSB. I'll get a 2.2 A and o/c it to at least 3100 Mhz.
I hope that is the consensus here. I am getting my hands on a 1.6A from a friend, he said he got it to 2.3GHz on a DDR system, I'll see what my TH7II and Kingston PC800 can do with it.
