What would you guys recommend for a socket a cooler under 300 grams?
Thanks

ThanksI don't know how much the Alpha PAL 6035 weighs but I don't think it's too much more than that if it is more. It performs well and does not cost too much. If you can handle the noise, get one with a delta 38cfm fan on it.

A very subjective question but MY short list would include the Alpha PAL6035 and the Vantec FCE-60540D. I exclude Globalwin only because of the high number of reported clip problems. I exclude the Thermo Engine because even though THEY contacted ME, they haven't agreed to send me (or sell me) a few to test with....the bastages. I won't recommend anything I haven't tested.

What about the Taisol CGK, is that any good?

Been using the Vantec for the last few weeks and I love it.
The important thing w/ HSF's is that no matter which one you go w/ make sure to lap the heatsink. It is amazing the difference that makes.
Good Luck.
Go for the thermoengine it's worked wonders for me. At the moment it's keeping my lovely duron 700@970
with 1.85v at 43 load 40 idle 23 case temp.
Once i get the delta black label fan my proc will be able to make the gig and over i hope.
All the above mentioned coolers, will they fit a T-Bird 1.2/ASUS K7V133 combo? I 'm planning to push the chip to the max (1.4~1.5Ghz)?
yes, they should all fit your setup.

Which would be better Taisol CGK or Alpha PAL6035 or..... any other suggestions?
I dont want anything from Thermaltake and I dont really want a Delta 7000rpm
Thanks a lot everyone

The heat sink design is important but the fan also has a lot to do with how well it cools.

Thanks a lot everyoneThat Taisol looks pretty good but it's HUGE. I like the idea of using all three nubs on the socket to hold it on there. (I just broke one of my nubs) You might want to make sure that the thing will fit on yer MoBo tho.....
Looks like a good cooler but I still like the Alpha, it has a copper insert where it touches the CPU and we all know that copper is a great conductor of heat. A little better that aluminum.
who cares??? go watercooled, theres no reason not to, many quality complete kits are on the market for about $100.00, and it will grow with your system. considering a really good air cooler is going to cost you $50.00, you would be doing yourself a huge favor and come up with the extra $50.00- you'd probably get a extra 100-200 mhz out of it to boot- jordan

Ok everyone which one is better AlphaPal6035 (Can someone also please tell me the weight in grams of this HSF including the fan) or the Taisol CGK742091?
Thank you everyone.

With a standard 60mm fan the Alpha weighs right at 227g.

Some people (Myself included) have smaller mid-towers that just wont accomidate water cooling. Others may not like the idea of watercooling, as they may be afraid of leakage. I personally am going with watercooling 2 computers down the road. My next one will just have the Vantec Tachyon is talking about and the next one, i'll just buy a complete kit from dangerden. Its all about personal preferance. I know a few people who would cringe knowing there were tubes with water constantly flowing through their system. Not me, right now its a budget issue but soon guys, soon.

I got a little watercooling system called the Aquastealth from 2cooltek.com and it fits perfectly in my little mid tower case. The radiator is just a bit bigger than a 120mm fan and it fits perfectly right in the lower front of my case.

Dang i measured and i just couldnt find a way for it to fit in my case. Yours just must be a hair bigger than mine :). Heck when i bought this comp i didnt even know what overclocking was so i could have cared less weather a watercooling rig could have fit in my comp, but now i wish i had thought my purchase through a little more. I mean honestly? who buys a P!!!800EB? Me i guess......

how about waiting a extra paycheck and getting a new case ($25.00 on pricewatch for full tower ayx) along with the aquastealth2 kit, thats whai i am using and it works awesome, it would be a waste of your hard earned money to spend $50.00 on a good air cooler considering that a mere $100.00 more can be a new case and watercooling. I've read that distilled water is non conductive and would not short anything out if you had a leak, which in itself is pretty unlikely

The Alpha PAL6035 is a good tried and true heat sink that does a good job air cooling. Outfitted with a YS Tech, Sunon, or Sanyo Denki fan it will do a good job. With the Delta it would give ~4C cooler.

The alpha is a nice heatsink but already a little dated. It is Good for up to 1-1.2GHz. Now, but there are better designs for over 1.2GHz. I like the GW WBK 38 combined with a 42CFM 80mm fan. On my machine it was about 4C better than the alpha.
A decent comparison of heatsinks can be found at www.2cooltek.com . Even though that is a vendor, I do not think it's rigged.
Yo
If you're set on those two but can't decided you should read this artical.

Better than an Alpha with what? Please be more specific or it doesn't really do more than confuse the issue.

Ian is a straight up guy. His data is good. Something that makes a difference is ambient temperature. I'm trying to determine if altitude is another factor.
Yo
The more dense the cooling medium, the more efficient the removal of heat. That's why water is so effective. At sea level, air is certainly more dense than up in the Rockies, but whether that difference is significant is beyond me.
I do a lot of wierd experiments. One involved mounting a bare, 1/4 inch copper plate on my Duron, as a heatsink. Using my 5hp air compressor, I rigged a blasting nozzle just above the plate dead center on where it rests upon the core. I fired up the Duron with one finger on the power switch and both eyes on the digital thermometer connected to the thermocouple embedded in the copper plate. If you've ever felt the stream of a blast nozzle up close, the velocity and hence density of the air-jet is pretty high. With the nozzle only an inch from the copper plate, it held the Duron to only 3 degrees above ambient running 2.0V on the core, 1.1 Ghz Prime95 Torture. A few days later, after my hearing returned, I realized this was not a sensible use of an expensive air compressor. I have been eyeing my daughters Asthma nebulizer pump though ;D

Water boils at a lower temp at altitude. Baking times are different. Is this significant to CPU's? I don't know...yet. Also, it is very dry here. Relative humidity norm's are 20-30%.

tachyon, probably not a huge difference, maybe you would get at most +1 degree celsius.

I suspect that you are right. I'm curious more than anything. (must be the engineer in me) :)
