Ok...right now I have a dinky little rio 180 (or something like that) in a res in my case.... I have a full tower, and I KNOW that that little pump is working overly hard to get the water all the way to the top (where the rad is..) SO....I was wondering about the Eheim 1048 pump.

Could I still use the resevoir with this set up so that I don't need a bleed line?

Also....how loud is this pump? I am a very avid "quiet freak"....

Oh, and I have 1/2'' tygon tubing....and I always forget what pump connection will work with that.....

Thanks a lot.

you will love it. its powerful and you can hardly even hear it.
the eheim will work with you 1/2 and you can still keep it in your res.

im running a eheim 1060 on 1/2 and its sweet

submerging may put less work on the pump i am not sure but if nothing else it will dampen the small amount of sound that it produces in the first place.

Pardon me if I'm incorrect, but I was of under the impression 2 feet or 6 feet or whatever makes no difference in a closed loops system... or does that not apply to reservoirs ?

(I know it had somethign to do with velocity and suction or something)

nah its to do with the power of the pump ... the Pumps header hight
even if its a closed loop it still has to lift the weight of the water,
higher and bigger (ID) the tube the more weight (water volume) so more you need a more pawerfull pump
I have a sorta mix the pump outside the resivoir my pump get a bit hot so it heats the water if i have it submerged

closed loop systems are still subject to gravity.
